In the heyday of interactive fiction in mid 80's, Infocom needs no introduction. From the slick and atmospheric packaging outside to the amazing virtual reality within, Infocom games are synonymous with interactive fiction par excellence. However, not everything the Implementers touched had turned to gold: not content with inventing the genre, Infocom also dabbled outside their territory with the Infocomics interactive comics series and boardgame-style Fooblitzsky. These departures from the norm, along with Infocom's graphical IF games, e.g. Shogun and Journey, never quite achieved the same lofty "classic" label as Zork or Trinity. Although they are by no means as great as the early classics, these games are no doubt underrated and often overlooked by all but the most zealous Infocom fans.

The following sites are indispensable to all Infocom fans and casual visitors:

  • Visit The Rise and Fall of Infocom for a concise summary of Infocom's career
  • Visit the amazing Unofficial Infocom Homepage for info, maps, and hints on every Infocom game (including unfinished ones), Zork Trilogy download (released as freeware by Activision), packaging information, Infocom-related articles, and much more!
  • The Infocom Gallery contains hi-res, full-color manuals and other scans of all Infocom games. If you prefer Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format, visit The Infocom Documentation Project, which is sanctioned by Activision
  • You can now play most Infocom games online and even save your position. Definitely one of the best websites ever made :)
  • The Chronology of Quendor is a must-visit for die-hard fans of Zork. A true labor of love by Robin Lionheart. Similar in concept to The Encyclopedia Frobozzica (the free copy of which was included in Return to Zork game box), but much more comprehensive and anal ;)
  • C.E. Forman's one and only Ye Olde Infocom Shoppe is a must-visit for those interesting in collecting Infocom games (and other adventure game classics)
  • The Hotel New Zork site at Activision contains excellent synopsis for every game in the Zork series.
